The attentive staff enhances the experience with knowledgeable guidance, helping guests navigate the creatively curated menu that features standout dishes brimming with complex layers of flavor.
The menu at Khâluna is a treasure trove of sensory delights. Start your culinary adventure with the crispy, tempura-fried Basil Wings, where the delicate heat of jalapeños complements the fragrant Thai basil and a signature dry rub, delivering an addictive crunch that captivates the senses. Equally compelling are their Chicken Samosas, rich with ground chicken, simmered potatoes, and a hint of madras spice, offering a comforting yet vibrant bite.
For those seeking refreshing, chilled dishes, the Laab Heed is a standout — a fusion of shiitake, king trumpet, and beech mushrooms enhanced with mint and toasted rice powder, creating an earthy, aromatic plate that is as wholesome as it is flavorful. Meanwhile, the Rainbow Rice enchants visually and gustatorily with anchan flower rice paired with puffed rice, shrimp flakes, and a tangy mosaic of grapefruit, green mango, and crisp vegetables, creating a dance of textures and tastes in every forkful.
Entrées at Khâluna prove equally inventive and indulgent. The Bucatini Talay—famously dubbed the “Most Boundary Pushing Noodles of 2022” by Food & Wine magazine—is a sumptuous symphony of bucatini noodles, succulent shrimp, squid, scallops, and tobiko, all enrobed in a vibrant tom yum ragout redolent with Thai basil. Each bite reveals layers of balancing heat, umami, and freshness that linger long after the plate is cleared.
Other signature entrees, such as the Duck Laab and the richly spiced Massaman Curry, deliver bold, memorable experiences. The duck, tender and earthy, blends seamlessly with fragrant herbs and lime, while the curry selections—ranging from the comforting Yellow Curry to the intensely aromatic Duck Curry—offer warm, inviting bowls perfect for sharing or savoring solo. For dessert, Khâluna continues to offer surprises, from the luscious Passionfruit Cremeux to the fragrant depth of the Pistachio Orange Blossom Cake, ending your meal on a sublime note that echoes the restaurant’s commitment to elevating Laotian flavors with sophistication.
Beyond the food, Khâluna shines in its full-spectrum dining experience. Guests frequently praise the expert, insightful service that guides them through unfamiliar ingredients and thoughtfully customizes meals to accommodate allergies or preferences. The bar’s cocktail offerings receive particular acclaim for their inventive use of unique ingredients, complemented by a well-curated non-alcoholic menu ensuring all guests feel exceptionally cared for.
Khâluna not only satisfies the taste buds but stirs excitement and curiosity, making every bite feel like a discovery. Whether you’re celebrating a special moment—as many guests have with weddings and anniversaries—or simply indulging in a beautifully executed meal, Khâluna crafts an experience that resonates deeply, inviting you to explore the rich tapestry of Laotian cuisine with every visit.
Khaluna experience and food was top notch. Started the evening with a drink at the bar, got the bartenders recommendation because I didn’t know what more than half of the unique ingredients were, and I was not disappointed. Also appreciated that they had NA drink menu for my partner. Once at the table, the server informed us that we order all items at once and they course it out. Sometimes I worry things get too rushed when they do that, but the pace was perfect, and the server recommendations were wonderful. We order 2 starter/small plates and 2 entrees and the portions were perfect for the 2 of us. Get the shrimp rolls- the texture combo with the herbs, rice paper, and stuffing paired with the dipping sauce was wonderful. Red snapper crudo was served in a bath of a coconut curry sauce that was so fresh. Duck confit fried rice. Love the flavors and the pop/crunch of some rice puff pieces mixed in. Scallop entree- amazing. Came with perfectly cooked zucchini, razor thin stacked potatoes (hasselback?), and peas, covered in a delicious green curry sauce. We finished the meal with the pistachio cake dessert. Service was amazing, atmosphere is warm and inviting -makes you feel like you’re at a tropical destination. The small touches tied everything with a bow. 5 stars recommend. Parking lot is tiny and is managed by valet. Plan to find a spot on the neighborhood streets.
We had our small wedding ceremony in the private event space at Khaluna. We chose this location because we had dined at Khâluna many times before and were always blown away by both the food and the service! We worked with Payton to assist with planning, who was amazing—highly responsive, knowledgeable, and made us feel completely at ease. Payton guided our menu selections thoughtfully to accommodate both vegan and non-vegan options, all of which turned out wonderful. Payton even helped customize the menu with our own logo, which was such a special touch. On the day of, the space was beautifully decorated, so we had very little to set up beforehand. Sarah assisted us during the event and was attentive and kind throughout. The only minor hiccup was that dinner service ran a bit past our allotted time due to kitchen ticket delays (a testament to how popular Khâluna is!). However, we weren’t charged extra and we went about 45 total minutes over. Our 15 guests fit comfortably in the space and raved about the food & drinks we had selected! We also got to send them home with plenty of leftovers. For a total of 17 people, with numerous options for appetizers, entrées, drinks, and desserts, valet, and three hours of rented space, our total came to approximately $3,500, including the deposit. We can’t recommend Khâluna enough and are excited to come back again and again. Photography by Nicole Ashley.
The food is incredible, but huge compliments go to the service and the environment too. Our server was so attentive and thoughtful - it was our wedding anniversary and we got two sparkling rosés to celebrate with, and they recommended and encouraged us to try two delicious sauces and sent them home with us. We had the sakoo, which were such a delicious appetizer for the braised squash and duck fried rice we ended up ordering. The sake parfait was a perfect, refreshing end to a rich meal. The riesling wine chosen to pair with the menu was a beautiful complement. An important note, I think, is that the seating in the restaurant is really comfortable - I can't recall a time where sitting in a booth seat was so comfortable. We had an excellent time and will be back as soon as we can get another reservation. Only managed to get a photo of the braised squash because we were too busy enjoying ourselves!
Have been wanting to come here for a while and it was awesome! Easily parked on street at 5:30pm on a Saturday. Started with some drinks - Yuzu drop martini (so good!) and no dhos margarita (tastes just like a margarita) and a palate cleanser complimentary - very good! We were intimidated by this menu as we didn't know what most of the ingredients were. Luckily our waiter was awesome and helped describe for us. We started with the red snapper crudo (in the coconut lime broth) and we devoured it - we literally drank the broth and even considered getting another. Next was the Sakoo (tapioca pearl dumpling), texture was an adventure, but warm inside and even dipped into the coconut broth as all the flavors were amazing. Immediately, we said we were coming back and getting these two items again. My husband (GF) got the duck fried rice - TBH he was not excited as he thought fried rice would be boring. He admits he was wrong and it was the best thing he's had in a long time - texture differences, lots of duck, so many different depths of flavor - just perfect. I can't pass up a ramen experience and got the Laksa (2 pictures, showing the bowl of goodies and the broth you pour on top), absolutely amazing. Tofu was cooked crispy and flavorful, broth is something I dream about. SO good! I also got the "Few of my favorite things" cocktail and it comes with a lychee and flavors - which I'm not a fan of. Last for dessert we got the Sake Pineapple Parfait (GF for my husband) and again a huge hit - my husband is not a dessert person and he was very happy we got this. This was definitely a culinary adventure for us - not understanding ingredients or how it was going to come together, trusted our server's recommendations and seriously loved every single thing. Restaurant can accommodate small or larger groups and we are definitely bringing friends back here. We appreciated the lighting and decor of the space - felt very upscale. The patio has lights and is cozy, would be nice in good weather. Would not recommend kids under 12 as they wouldn't appreciate the flavors or be adventurous. Spent $223 with tip for all the above.
Khâluna continues to impress with its flavors and creativity and visited them on Oct 13. The valet parking is convenient and smooth -- definitely a plus when the restaurant gets busy. The food was excellent as always. I absolutely love their Basil Wings and Duck Fried Rice -- both are packed with flavor and perfectly balanced. I tried their congee again this time; while I prefer the duck congee they serve in the winter, the quail congee offered in summer is still delicious and lighter, perfect for the season. The dessert was a standout -- sweet, tangy, and beautifully presented (photo attached). I can't remember the name, but it had berries and a lovely balance of textures and flavors. If anyone from the restaurant sees this, please help me identify it because I'd absolutely order it again! The only downside this visit was the service by a sommelier, which was unfortunately abysmal -- slow, inattentive, and not up to their usual standard. It didn't match the quality of the food or the atmosphere. Still, Khâluna's dishes make it worth returning. Their presentation, seasonal creativity, and flavor combinations always deliver something memorable.
Probably one of the best dining experiences in Minneapolis and all of Minnesota. This place was amazing—from the atmosphere to the food and the customer service, everything was excellent. I went with my wife; we made a reservation that was moved up 30 minutes due to the weather. We easily found parking, and the guys outside helped us park. The location is beautiful . We were seated right away. We tried several dishes recommended by our waiter. I’m sorry I forgot his name, but he was outstanding—great recommendations and superb customer service (the guy with tattoos). He deserves a raise! The food was delicious. We tried the crudo, which was fresh and cold, with an excellent coconut-lime flavor. We also had their wings, which were incredibly crispy and flavorful for a dry rub. We asked for a sauce, and they brought us a really nice sweet sauce to go with the wings. The DOC fried rice was one of my favorites. The flavor was on point—very traditional and well prepared. We also tried two desserts: the passion fruit dessert and the orange cake. Both were amazing, but my favorite was the orange cake. I will definitely be coming back. I hope the level of service and the high food standards are maintained consistently. Loved it! 10/10 ⭐
Absolutely delicious. We ordered the duck fried rice, red curry, wings, and sakoo. Best way to describe the atmosphere is airy, light, inviting & great for a date night/family gathering/special event. The waitress was so kind & helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our whole experience overall. I am ready to come back for their amazing red curry.
